Welcome

I’m Mike Carhart-Harris. These days, I work in public relations in the housing sector but in my 20s I was a journalist, focusing first on dance and electronic music, then more on film and TV. I begain freelancing straight out of university aged 21 for dance music weekly 7 magazine, for which I subsequently became reviews editor before being made editor of its relaunched incarnation, Seven Update. The magazine folded in October 2002, following which I freelanced for titles including the NME, Muzik, Jockey Slut, Sleazenation, X-Ray, Knowledge and Deuce.

Between 2003 and 2004, I joined the nascent blogosphere and published an anonymous blog under the title of tufluv///, mostly made up of reviews of the records I was being sent and some of which I was buying. I closed the blog in 2004 when I returned to my family home in Dorset and got a ‘proper’ job as Deputy Editor of DVD Review magazine, where I remained for four years, during which the magazine was bought by Future Publishing and I returned to London.

In 2008, I left the capital for the second time to return to Dorset, get married and change careers, moving into corporate communications and PR in the public and, later, charity sectors, which I continue to do to this day.

This website is a result of a bit of mid-life reminiscing and spurred by recent social media posts reflecting on the blogosphere of the early and mid-2000s. I’d been meaning to collect my writing together for posterity, if only for my own vanity. Although much of it makes me cringe, there’s a lot I’m pretty proud of. I hope others find something worth reading here, whether they agree with my sentiments or not.
